    Windows 8 maintenance in progress

This keeps happening on my Windows 8 PC.
It won't stop saying "maintenance in progress". It doesn't seem to be doing anything but it slows my computer down and sometimes my PC freezes.
How long will it continue to do this, and what is Windows doing when it says "maintenance in progress"?

If you want to find out what Windows is doing when it says "Maintenance in progress" in Windows 8, you can open the Task Manager and look at the Processes. It is likely to be running antimalware programs or defragmenting the disk.

In theory, Automatic Maintenance is meant to stop within a few seconds of you starting to use your PC (it's just meant to run when the PC is idle). If it carries on running when you're trying to use your computer, you can stop it manually by doing this:

    1. Search for 'Schedule Tasks' under Settings using the search box in the Charms bar.
    2. Open 'Schedule Tasks'
    3. Click on 'Display All Running Tasks'
    4. Find the maintenance task, highlight it, and click on End Task
