Satya Nadella has scheduled his first media event as Microsoft CEO. The event is to be held in San Francisco on March 27th, and is expected to see the company finally reveal a version of Microsoft Office for the iPad.

Reporters around the US have started to receive invitations for the event. Though apparently focused on cloud and mobile, sources speaking to The Verge say that the event will also include the unveiling of a new Office version for the iPad. A screenshot of Office for iPad was recently leaked online by a Microsoft employee, and appears to show an application ready for release.

The release of an Office suite for the iPad will be welcomed by those who have criticised Microsoft for being too slow to offer its core software to rival Apple’s devices. The iPad version is likely to be similar to the iPhone version, and will almost certainly need an Office 365 subscription for editing files.

The March 27 event will be followed by the Microsoft Build 2014 conference from April 2—4, at which the company is expected to present developments with Windows Phone and the forthcoming Windows 8.1 update.

The spotlight will be firmly on Satya Nadella in the coming few weeks, as the CEO of Microsoft outlines his vision for the company’s future.
